Of course this is focused on E33 as if it’s the first non full priced game and they cracked some long hidden mystery. This standard was arguably set last gen when you could get a full length uncharted game with uncharted 4’s graphics for $40.
There were multiple $40 games last gen. The secret was…and this will shock you…holding back and not making them 50-100 hours long with all the features packed in regardless if it makes sense or not.

I think we need more dynamic pricing. Something huge like Elden Ring is fairly priced where it is, but smaller games should be cheaper.

Disagree. The deep discounting of games and the overall abundance of high quality games has created a consumer that isn’t motivated to pay full price. Even if that baseline was lowered, the same mentality would persist.
In the scheme of things, games aren’t particularly expensive.

Step one – crack down on corporate greed.
What’s that? Oh the corporations are the puppet masters of the govt? Well, shit.

I’m going to go against the train. Videogame prices are fine. They have barely gone up over the last few decades.
Food, energy, housing and healthcare need to be more affordable.

I mean, 15 years ago games were $60. Now they’re average of $70 for the base edition.
Compare that with literally any inflationary pricing over 10-15 years and I think it’s safe to say video games are fairly priced still…

Players also shouldn’t be expecting 80-100 hour games. Spider-Man 2 got heat for being “short”, but damn I had a good time with it. Then comes Dying Light 2 bragging up how their game offers 500 hours of stuff to do. No thanks. They said that and I noped right off that because that’s a game that doesn’t respect my time. Valhalla was another one. I started doing the math on how long the game was going to take once I realized how many regions were left and how long each was taking. I got deflated when I realized that at 40+ hours I had another 40+ hours to go. I should have stopped right there, but I didn’t and I curse myself to this day.

Oh my god E33 again. Why is everything about E33?
Now E33 is the first non-full priced game? Really?

Are video games that much more expensive when you consider inflation?

Yes, more games need to be free to play.
Paying $70 for a AAA title is insane

Yeah, maybe laying off thousands and thousands of your potential customers who also double as industry workers might have an impact on sales growth. AI ain’t buying the games.

Counterpoint people need to make more money. Which is frankly what the real issue is. Things aren’t affordable fo most of us because we have been value extracted mules.
In the US at least wages should not need an act of congress in every state to go up and should follow an index just like anything else.

Buy full price game now…or wait 6-12 months for it to go 50-70% off

We were told by journos that $70, even $100, was fair for the content we were buying. I wonder what happened.

Like 100 is too much but 60 has been the standard for nearly 20 years
